13 horses have been nominated to compete in the Group 2 Shannon Stakes at Rosehill Gardens this Saturday September 24, 2011.
The 2011 Shannon Stakes will be run over a distance of 1,500 metres and is worth $175,000 in prize money.
Open to horses aged three-year-old and upwards, the 2011 Shannon Stakes will be run under quality handicap conditions.
Included in the Shannon Stakes 2011 nominations is Gai Waterhouse’s Descarado, who will be making his return to racing after taking a five and a half month spell after finishing sixth in the Group 1 The BMW at Rosehill in April.
Descarado won last year’s Caulfield Cup before finishing second to So You Think in the Group 1 McKinnon Stakes.
