Eleven runners have been included in the final field for Saturday’s Group 2 Shannon Stakes (1500m) at Rosehill Gardens; highlighted by the confirmation of some of the Spring Carnival’s most exciting runners.

As expected, trainer Chris Waller has dominated the 2015 Shannon Stakes final field after confirming four of his stable’s stars, including Moriarty and Foreteller.

Moriarty has been a strong and consistent performer through his 59 start career so far; posting thirteen wins and a further fourteen minors.

Returning last spring in typically good form, the Clodovil gelding won the Group 3 Craven Plate (2000m); progressing to eighth in the Group 1 Mackinnon Stakes (2000m) before a trip to Perth delivered third in the Group 1 Railway Stakes (1600m) and success in the Group 1 Kingston Town Classic (1800m).

Running fourth in the Group 1 Doomben Cup (2000m) and second in the Group 2 Eagle Farm Cup (2200m) through a recent Brisbane Winter Campaign, Moriarty is yet to find peak condition through two starts this time but should perform well from the rails draw in the 2015 Shannon Stakes.

Foreteller is also yet to figure through two starts this time but will also enjoy the conditions of the 2015 Shannon Stakes.

A three-time Group 1 winner, Foreteller is a proven spring performer; running third in the Group 2 Dato’ Tan Chin Nam Stakes (1600m) and winning the Group 1 Underwood Stakes (1800m) upon resuming in 2014; progressing to an impressive fifth in the Group 1 Cox Plate (2040m).

Team Hawkes have also confirmed three in the 2015 Shannon Stakes final field and are arguably offered their best chance of success via Messene, who should enjoy a dream run in transit from barrier 3.

Posting nine wins and a further four minors through an impressive nineteen start career, Messene returned this time for fifth in the Group 2 Missile Stakes (1200m) before boxing on for a close third in the Group 2 Warwick Stakes (1400m) a fortnight later.

While unable to match the late pace when eighth in the Group 2 Theo Marks Stakes (1300m) last time out, the Lonhro gelding has reportedly trained well in the lead-up to the 2015 Shannon Stakes.

Wouldnt It Be Nice has posted several impressive results this time but will need plenty of luck in the Shannon Stakes after being allocated the outside barrier 11.

Having delivered trainer Paul Perry a number of positive winter black type results, the Choisir gelding appeared to have fallen out of form when eighth in the Group 3 Show County Quality (1200m) and seventh in the Group 3 Concorde Stakes (1000m), but ran on for third in the Group 3 Cameron Handicap (1500m) at Newcastle last week.
