Ninth Legion and Vashka have both returned to racing in competitive form this time and remain tied on the top line of 2015 Shannon Stakes betting with leading online bookie Ladbrokes.com.au at $4.80 quotes each.

A strong and consistent performer for Team Hawkes through his 32 start career so far, Ninth Legion has posted an impressive six wins and ten minors.

Returning this year for success in the Listed Carrington Stakes (1400m) in January, Ninth Legion progressed to second in the Group 2 Apollo Stakes (1400m) before placing seventh in the Group 1 Chipping Norton Stakes (1600m) and second in the Group 2 Ajax Stakes (1500m).

Having run on for a credible third in the Group 2 Theo Marks Stakes (1300m) first-up this time, the Fastnet Rock gelding has been confirmed to be partnered by in-form hoop Christian Reith and should receive a dream run in transit from barrier 2.

Another leading chance of success for Godolphin this season, Vashka failed to figure late when seventh in the Theo Marks Stakes last time out but should relish a weighting of only 53kgs in the 2015 Shannon Stakes.

Finishing outside the first three only a handful of times in fourteen career starts, the Exceed And Excel gelding posted five-consecutive wins in Sydney sprints through summer, and while unable to figure when tenth in the Group 3 Hall Mark Stakes (1200m) in late autumn, returned this time for third in the Group 3 Show County Quality (1200m) on August 22nd.

Akavoroun has experienced steady support in 2015 Shannon Stakes betting markets; cutting in from opening odds of $6 to figure as sole occupant of the second line at a current quote of $5.50.

One of a number of horses that have found strong and consistent form for Ciaron Maher this year, Akavoroun ran fifth in the Group 3 TAB Rewards Stakes (1400m) on March 7th before a luckless run for eighth in the Listed Golden Mile (1600m) a fortnight later.

Returning this time for a close second in the Listed The Sofitel, the Lacryma Cristi gelding will need some luck in running from barrier 9 but is sure to be given a gem of a ride by veteran hoop Glyn Schofield on Saturday.
