Hi World has firmed into outright $3.30 favouritism in 2016 Shannon Stakes betting markets with Ladbrokes.com.au following the scratching of former leading contender Counterattack, ahead of Old North ($4.50) and Caped Crusader ($6).

Will Hi World justify favouritism and win the 2016 Shannon Stakes, or will one of his rivals post an upset?

1st

Old North ($4.50)

Godolphin runner Old North is sure to have taken plenty of benefit from his first-up run a fortnight ago and is arguably the class runner in the 2016 Shannon Stakes field. Claiming three wins and a minor through nine career starts, the Lonhro entire ran fourth in the Group 2 Phar Lap Stakes (1500m) on March 12th before delivering a classy field a comfortable defeat in the Group 2 Tulloch Stakes (2000m). Running a close second in the Group 3 Frank Packer Plate (2000m), Old North returned to the paddock after placing fourth in the Group 2 Hollindale Stakes (1800m) in early May. Drawn well with Tim Clark in the saddle, Old North should just be too good with only 53kgs in tow.

2nd

Entirely Platinum ($6)

Team Hawkes runner Entirely Platinum will relish a step back in distance and class into the Shannon Stakes and is arguably over the odds at his current quote. Securing an impressive six wins and nine minors through only thirty competitive appearances, Entirely Platinum returned to racing this time for a credible third in the Group 2 PB Lawrence Stakes (1400m) but failed to produce much when 12th in the Group 1 Makybe Diva Stakes (1600m) a fortnight ago. Entirely Platinum could very well receive the run of the race from barrier 2 and will be partnered by in-form hoop Christian Reith.

3rd

Kellyville Flyer ($18)

Kellyville Flyer is considered the rank outsider of the Shannon Stakes field, but the size of the confirmed contingent and the conditions of the race suggest she could very well be in with a chance of an upset. A consistent performer for Hawkesbury-based trainer Jason Attard, the failed to fire in the Group 3 Tibbie Stakes (1350m) last time out, but her best form is at 1500m and she is worth consideration for an each-way wager at current Shannon Stakes odds.
